Fatima parishioners attend retreat by Capuchins
KUALA LUMPUR: The Capuchin priests conducted a retreat at a parish environment for the parishioners of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Brickfields, from Sept 10 to 14. The theme for this retreat was A Call to Discipleship. For the five days, Capuchin priests; Fr Michael Raymond OFM Cap, Fr Andrew Manikam and David Reagon touched on the various aspects of Christian spirituality and discipleship in tandem with their relationship with and man. Everyday, more than 180 people gathered for two-hour session comprising praise and worship input, group sharing and prayer. For many, the sessions were down to earth and easy to relate to. The presenters were able to share personal experiences and connect them with the Bible. The questions posed for the group sharing helped the participants to be open in their sharing. Fr Michael Raymond OFM Cap started the retreat, with a scripture based on the transfiguration. Jesus often had to get away from the crowd to spend time with God. Fr Michael told the people to follow Jesus' examples and to give God a chance to work in their lives. On the second day, Fr Andrew Manikam OFM Cap touched on Christian Spirituality. Fr Andrew started by telling a story about parable of the pencil. He said we are like a pencil which experiences a painful sharpening, and therefore becomes a better pencil. Fr Andrew's question was, how healthy is your Spiritual life? Do you have a good friends and a healthy self concept? He said we must have good self esteem, and know who we are. We must also be grateful to God for our gifts and talents. Fr Andrew concluded that prayer is important as it gives us healthy Spirituality. Day three was conducted by Fr David Reagon, entitled Meditation and Prayer. The duty of a Christian is to know God. He said that 99 percent God speaks to us through the word of God, which is the Bible. By practicing vocabulary through the heart and mind of God. The fourth day was focused on Christian Discipleship, which was conducted by Fr Andrew. He spoke about looking at our own lives and how we define our walk with God? And when he calls, he said there's always fear, fear of failure. Fr Andrew concluded by saying that following Christ is always towards Jerusalem; there was a bigger cross behind Jesus’s mind, that is the will of his father. Fr Michael Raymond concluded the fifth day. He said that Christ has to be the centre of all things we do. He urged everyone present to open themselves to the experience of God. The retreat ended with Holy Hour, spending some quiet moments at the feet of Jesus and fol¬lowed by Benediction. - Posted by Herald

- Posted by Herald
