Chrism Mass – Once A Year
The Mass of Chrism comes once a year. It is one of the most solemn and significant liturgies of the Church. During the Mass, the Bishop will bless the oil of catechumens, the oil of the sick, and the oil of chrism.
The first is used for adult catechumens and infants, the second for anointing the sick, and the sacred oil of chrism for baptism, confirmation, the ordination of priests, and the consecration of altars. These oils are to form an important part of the sacramental life of our communities during the year.
The holy oils are then solemnly received into the parishes during the Mass of the Lord's Supper or at another suitable time. The oils are placed in noble and dignified containers and stored near to the baptismal font in an ambry - a wall safe, often with a glazed door so that they are visible to the community.

Moses – A Good Example for Priests Today
KAJANG:
"We are gathered here as a community to give thanks to God for our priests," said Archbishop Murphy Pakiam at the beginning of the Chrism Mass on March 11, at the Church of the Holy Family.
In his homily which focused on the life of Moses, Archbishop Pakiam drew parallels to today's world.
"My dear friends, Moses stands as one of the great anointed ones in our heritage for our priestly life and ministry. Especially in this archdiocese and Peninsular Malaysia, where we are invited to be ministers of a church with a vision, and mission and the objective of becoming a communion of communities of Disciples of Jesus.
"Moses, the Great man of the Old Covenant, the one seen in conversation with the fore-runner of the Christ, of the New Covenant, He is truly an inspiration for us in our priestly ministry today in that particular emphasis as leader of the community."

Seven Last Words of Jesus
KUALA LUMPUR::
The parishioners of' the Church of St Francis of Assisi made time each day during the week leading up to Feb 24 to enter into the mystery of the Passion of Jesus through reflection on the final words of Jesus spoken during his passion on the Cross.
The seven last words of Jesus - the most powerful and beautiful words of life - formed the theme of the Lenten Retreat of the parish of SFA. The prelude to the entire retreat was the reading of 'The Prayer of Abandonment' by Fr Andrew Manickam OFM Cap, assistant parish pastor.
Each session began with Praise and Worship, sweeping in a sense of joy and sacredness to the on going experiences of each evening and thereby helping the people flow into the spirit of Lent. Every talk was introduced with a video clip from the Passion of Jesus.

Media Literacy Camp for Mentakab Parish Youth
KUALA LUMPUR::
Young people should be able to differentiate between the advantages and disadvantages of the media, and to be more alert to the influence of media.
This was what participant Juanita Peter learnt from the Media Camp, which was held for confirmands from the Church of Our Perpetual Help (OLPH), from 15-17 February.
"I'll be able to correct my friends who are negatively influenced by the and help them think positively by absorbing only the goodness of the media," added Juanitha, who is waiting the results of the SPM examination.
Another participant, Jonathan Lim, said that the camp helped him evaluate and judge the media. "Though the camp, I've learnt to purchase goods and services wisely only when I need them because as we all know, humans have unlimited wants," added Jon Form 6 student.
Based on the Public Announcement (PSA) module of the camp, Jonathan said that he hopes to produce similar PSAs. "In future, I will create inspiring messages to attract audiences in a positive way in moral values and spiritual well-being based on what I have learnt about the media," he said.

Myth Broken
KUALA LUMPUR::
The outcome of the 12th General lection on 8 March, is certain to occupy a special niche in the history of elections in Malaysia.
The hitherto invulnerable ruling coalition, Barisan Nasional (BN), was dealt a stunning blow when it lost its two-thirds' majority in the Federal Parliament and was ousted from power in the state legislatures of Penang, Kedah, Perak and Selangor.
Voters in the east coast state of Kelantan, in the hands of the opposition Parti Islam SeMalaysia (Pas) since 1990 and expected to revert to BN rule because of Pas' precarious one seat pre-polls advantage, returned the incumbents by a much bigger majority.
The coalition has been ruling since the country's independence in 1957 and had only once lost its two-thirds' majority - in the elections of 1969. Racial riots after that historic watershed led to radical changes to the economy and politics of the country with the introduction of the New Economic Policy, favouring the Malay majority, and the formation of the muiti-party BN coalition, invincible since 1974.

It’s Election Time in Malaysia
KUALA LUMPUR:: The Malaysian electorate for the 12th General Election will be held on 8 March 2008 and is the quickest one to be called in our history - it is only four years between the last one in March 2004 and this one.
The government of Abdullah Badawi is not required to call an election until May 2009. It has obviously called for one 14 months early because of fear that a later poll would be held in conditions that do not favor it.
Anwar Ibrahim, a resurgent opposition leader, qualifies to stand for Parliament after mid-April and an oil price hike, forced by US$100 prices for a barrel on the international market, cannot be deferred for too long. An eligible Anwar and a spike in the consumer pro index consequent upon an oil price increase would place the ruling Barisan Nasional in an unfavorable situation.

Towards Balloting Day Election Time
KUALA LUMPUR:: The General Elections are here. It is a time for debate and decisions. Catholics have the same rights and duties to vote as any other citizen, but are called to carry them out in light of the truth, faith and justice as taught by the Catholic Church. We are called to respect human authority and obey those who govern society for God's sake and to live as free people without using that freedom to cover any wrongdoings (1 Peter 2:13-17).
Malaysia is a democratic state where citizens choose their leaders through an electoral process, and to whom they vest authority for the common good. A choice for one person over another for public office such as a Member of Parliament or State Executive Councilor can significantly affect many lives, especially from the ethnic minorities, natives, religious persons or the downtrodden. We, the Catholic citizens have a serious moral obligation to exercise our right to vote, whether at national or state level.
